w60-dish — 60 GHz PtP dish¶
A 60 GHz point-to-point dish pair (e.g. w60-fenwick-holmes ↔
w60-holmes-fenwick). See 60 GHz wireless for products,
MTU and recovery.
| Role | radio — documented, not configured |
| Platform | (empty) — keeps the dishes out of the automation inventory |
| Interfaces | ether1 (2.5gbase-t) + radio (ieee802.11ad) |
The dishes are modelled in NetBox for monitoring, DNS and cabling (wireless link objects), but Ansible never configures them — they are on the hands-off list.
What the routers derive¶
On each dish-facing router port (metro-pe):
ros_role=core-link,ospf_cost=500(policy — the port is Ethernet, so the cost is set manually),bfd_enabled=true, and its half of the/31.- The gateway router additionally gets a virtual
radio-mgmtchild (parent = the dish-facing port, untagged VLAN 99, IP10.254.250.1/29). The transport role builds the VLAN interface + gateway and advertises the/29into iBGP. The repeated VLAN 99 never collides because it is per-parent-port.
ether1 on the dish itself takes the primary IP (.2/.3 of the /29, gateway
.1) with a dns_name.
One-time hand-config on the dishes¶
- Bridge mode end-to-end.
- Management VLAN 99, addresses
.2/.3, gateway.1. - The radio must pass tagged frames at ≥ 1600 L2MTU (the MPLS floor) before MPLS is enabled on the link — verify before turning up the overlay.
